Comics Out Wednesday November 19, 2008 (Post #1000)

I did not pick up any comics this week, but this is still an important post: POST #1000. Many thanks to the guest bloggers who got us there.

Review, discuss, and recommend this week's comics and comics news.

They're lions, Geoff, not tigers... see... now it should make sense....

Thor's going back to its original numbering for #600, even though Journey into Mystery #1-82 didn't feature Thor blah blah - the important thing is that the anniversary issue will include a story written by Stan Lee and illustrated by Iron Fist's David Aja.

Who are the Dark Avengers? (I do. I care.)

I've yet to read anything this week, but I picked up Uncanny X-Men #504 because the Dodsons are way better than Greg Land, and even though I'm pretty sure the previous arc was all Fraction, he's the only writer credited this issue. Will Brubaker not script any issues after all?

*Spoiler Alert*

Captain America in an Iron Man Suit, Wolverine, Hawkeye, Venom (too bulky to be spidey)Ms. Marvel. They're not doing a good job of making it hard to figure out.

Here's some news that's at least new to me... apparently Miller's 'Holy Terror, Batman' (the Batman Vs Al Quaeda story) is no longer going to be published by DC and is no longer going to feature Batman. Miller said that, as he worked on it, it became something else and is going to be the start of something else that he's working on...

WTF? I mean, I saw some of the pages he had done when he was halfway through... and they definitely had Batman in them... and he looked frickin' awesome...
Also, there is currently no solicitation date for ASBARTBW 11... it has been postponed indefinitely....

Gah! I guess I'll have to go see the Spirit to see what Miller has been up to...

Scott, my guess is Miller's Batman story was conceived when the war in Iraq was a popular notion and Bush had a relatively high approval rating.

Times, they are a-changing.

James, speaking of David Aja - I think it was solicited that he is teaming up with Brubaker as the regular Daredevil artist (in Feb. I believe).

I wonder if Geoff will find this title worthy of a pickup?

vcaramela - Yes! I was going to mention that, but evidently forgot. I've long since dropped Brubaker's Daredevil (≈Bendis + plodding - good dialogue = bye), but Aja's last Daredevil was a hoot, so I'll get it for sure.

scott - Venom's a no-brainer, but I've got very different picks for the rest. I think I've said before, these guessing games are by far the funnest part of these events.

Brubaker's Daredevil is good now. Lady Bullseye has reivigorated the series and it FEELS a lot like the early Iron Fist issues, even without Aja.

Maybe a little off-topic - I watched Smallville for the first time in a while this week and Doomsday was on it... ? Really? We've gotten to Doomsday on Smallville? The best was seeing him in the stock CW pop-music montage at the end of the episode.

That SUCKS about Holy Terror. 10 dollars says it stars The Spirit now.
