Free Form Comments

Say whatever you want to in the comments to this post -- random, off topic thoughts, ideas, suggestions, questions, recommendations, criticisms (which can be anonymous), surveys, introductions if you have never commented before, personal news, self-promotion, requests to be added to the blog roll and so on. If I forget, remind me. Remember these comments can be directed at all the readers, not just me.

ALSO. You can use this space to re-ask me questions you asked me before that I failed to answer because I was too busy.

AND you can use this space to comment on posts that are old enough that no one is reading the comments threads anymore.

You do not have to have a blogger account or gmail account to post a comment -- you can write a comment, write your name at the bottom of your comment like an e mail, and then post using the "anonymous" option.

WRITING FOR THIS BLOG. If I see a big free form comment that deserves more attention, I will pull it and make it its own post, with a label on the post and on the sidebar that will always link to all the posts you write for this blog. I am always looking for reviews of games, tv, movies, music and books.

Geoff, Scott--any plans to write up Eminem's "Relapse?" Seems like it deserves a review.

I don't like horrorcore or Eminem; the av club would have to have given it an A to even get my attention. I can't speak for scott but I am afraid I will not be covering it.

the film adaption of Mænd som Hader Kvinder ("Men who Hate Women" or as it was translated to English: "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo") was really good.

It's about Mikael Bloomkvist, a jouralist who is convicted of falsifying evidence and libel. He is set to be in prison in six months time, but before that he's hired by an elderly business man, who wants him to investigate the death of his surrogat-daughter 40 years ago. Meanwhile Bloomkvist is getting spied on by a Security business. The "reseacher" asigned to him is the asocial, violent and psychologically troubled punk, Lisbeth Salander. She ends up becoming his Girl Friday and they go off to investigate the death and the seedier sides of the Vanger Concerns' members; the family members of the elderly man and the victim.

It's not really breaking the mould of the Detective story, but it's throughly enjoyable, plays a little with the archetypes and is surprisingly effective and oddly funny.

Of course we soon realise through the story that our main character is Lisbeth and not Mikael, but they're both fairly prominent and active in the story.

Not so sure about the prevailence of rape in the movie, but considering the pro-feminist message of the book, the name and subject matter it was fairly relevant.

(Sorry I couldn't find a subtitled one, but apparently there isn't one. They're making an English film adaption of the book as well, but I don't know how that'll work really. It's very Swedish.)

Oh yeah and there are nummerous small references to American and Scandinavian detective stories, the biggest one being that the story structure is a little akin to Chandler's The Big Sleep.

Jake,

Eminem (and rap in general) aren't really my thing (again, I call for any hip-hop fans out there to bring more of the hip-hop to the blog). I did overhear a girl at the mall say she listened to about two songs before she got disgusted and turned it off... something about a song about kidnapping a girl from the side of the road...

If you want to write something up on it, I'm sure Geoff would be glad to post it.

I'm thinking I might try to write something up about Lil Wayne's 'rock' album when it comes out though.

I am not a huge rap fan, but I do enjoy Em, Weezy, Kanye, and Lupe Fiasco. Maybe I'll write something up but I dunno.

I hadn't really categorized Em as "horrorcore" in my head but I guess it makes sense. It's pretty jarring for me to accept that because I was actually disassociating the meaning of the words from the sound of them when I was listening my first time through. It was kind of weird, because I was thinking about the beauty of what are actually pretty vile tracks.

Now I sort of want to write something up. Durrrr.

"I know I should not like the "I am from Queens" girl in the Hillside Honda ads, but I do."

I was going to tweet back to you on this, but I need to represent on a global level.

I am Queens - born, bred and dead (someday). You canNOT go wrong with gurlz with teased out hair and tough accents. (Her hair may not be teased out, but the rest of the package is enough.)

But thankyouthankyouthankyou for speaking aloud my private secret - that girl is HOT! Every morning that I catch that commercial on NY1between 5:50 and 6:15 means it's gonna be a GOOD day.

Love that chick.

Marc -- hilarious. And what I was too polite to say on twitter was this -- that girl is CRAZY hot. And she HAS to live somewhere near one of us.
