LOST Season 4 Teaser (a Dharma Corp Video)

Mitch found a trailer for the fourth season of Lost! It is not clips -- it is a film from within the world of Lost. It is awesome. And it gestures toward some answers to at least two of my questions about the show. Spoilers in the comments. Thanks Mitch.

The people on the plane and Locke's dad -- copies. Maybe. I have not really thought about this yet.

I read the wiki entry on the Casmir effect, but I do not really get it. Obviously the bunny and the other bunny can't get to close. I don't know.

God bless Lost and everything it stands for.

duplicates suggest copies, and maybe even time travel

This would seem the most pertinent aspect of Casimir effect, via wiki: "Morris, Thorne and Yurtsever[7] pointed out that the quantum mechanics of the Casimir effect can be used to produce a locally mass-negative region of space-time, and suggested that negative effect could be used to stabilize a wormhole to allow faster than light travel"

So, yeah. Time travel.

Thanks for posting that Geoff. I read about the clip earlier this week and have been wanting to see it. I posted a response to it on my blog:

Woo-Hoo!

I'm thinking quantum copies rather than time travel... just because they've already kind of scratched the time travel itch (and no doubt will again) with Desmond.

Based on my vague, untrained semi-understanding of the Casimir mumbo-jumbo- maybe it's plausable that the force could "copy" something across negative space. Maybe the people on the Island weren't drawn to the island, but instead were copied from the plane onto the Island... hence why there was wreckage and bodies recovered from the crash.

I don't know. And that's the beauty of LOST, we're given enough info to think we almost know what the hell is going on, but then are ultimately proved wrong by something much more interesting.

Time Travewl storyline obviously. I hate time travel storylines. They never make sense ever. They just can't. It's like trying to make the impossible rational.

There's a nice little "God loves You as He Loved Jacob" card inbetween the takes, if you guys didn't notice. I don't know. I haven't watched Lost regularly since season one.

My guess? The Casimir Effect seems to imply the involvement/creation of 'exotic matter', of which 'anti-matter' is one type. And, as both Star Trek and Wikipedia explain, anti-matter and matter realize a mutual annihilation when they contact one another. I don't pretend to know why a human being - which is composed of matter - could pick pick up an anti-matter bunny (if that's what it is), but it may be that allowing the bunnies to touch would cause a mass annihilation of matter. Or at least that's my best guess.

Prompts the question, though - if this is at all a correct guess, then are the Others anti-matter duplicates? That might provide a pseudo-scientific explanation for why they appear less/more than human, anyway.

quantum mechanics & bible stories...
so are the people on the island jacob whom god loved, or his twin brother esau?
and, once again, the beauty of Lost, all possibilities could be contained within.
and everything is up for grabs.

I thought the producers ruled out time travel pretty early on? Maybe only in the sense that the island is in the present. Great clip though, (contrary to popular opinion) these guys really know what they are doing.

My nephew is taking a science-fiction course at his high school. One of the topics they'll cover is time travel. The teacher posted a quote from Orson Scott Card saying, in effect, the rules of time travel don't limit a story's possibilities - they open them up.

I'm gonna be the biggest pest to him - I basically want to take this course through him.

So, needless, to say, I'm hoping for time travel storylines.

Because, at this point with Lost, why the hell not? They're never going to get new viewers and the ones they have are down for pretty much anything. So I say go for broke, LOST people. We, your die-hard fans deserve it and you will be rewarded in this world and the next.

Copies would give credence to flash-forward's mentioning of his father as if he were still alive, as well as, his running around in one of the early episodes of season one.
